Are you finding an affordable collar mic for beginners? I’ll share a good-quality and affordable collar microphone with you. A collar mic becomes an essential part of the camera gear if you’re making on mobile reviews, tech accessories unboxing, and PC how-to guide.
However, there are hundreds of thousands of other YouTube channels that also use collar microphones while creating content. Those channel types include but are not limited to online marketing, pets, politics, sports, toys, and tourism.
Being a YouTuber and blogger, not only do I try out online tools and softwares, but I also test out camera gear and accessories from time to time. Although, some SAAS companies have given me their subscriptions or softwares for free which makes this even more fun.
But that’s not the point; I take pride in being a blogger and put out content that helps the readers. So I should talk about things that I know and they can help the audience.
So I want to talk about an affordable collar mic that I recently got my hands on. I have been playing with it for a week or so. Therefore, I’m ready to share a few things with you.

An Affordable Collar Mic: Boya By M1
Boya By M1 is an affordable collar microphone for presentations and video recording. So it’s fair to say that it’s a good choice for beginner YouTubers as you can buy this microphone between $13 to $15. Furthermore, you can use for voiceovers in your videos or sit-down videos for YouTube.
It’s compatible with computers, smartphones, and camera devices. It comes with an approx. 25 feet long wire, which makes it easier for recording interviews or making a video with a wide-angle lens. One of the best things about Boya By M1 is that it can use on both DSLR cameras and smartphones; it has a button on the adaptor to switch between camera and phone modes.
Features of Boya By M1
- It smoothly works on smartphones, DSLR cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, and PCs
- It’s an Omni-directional condenser microphone, which means it can capture audio from multiple directions, unlike directional microphones that capture from only one direction. I use Boya By MM1 for vlogging, which is a shotgun microphone for a DSLR camera; it’s a directional microphone
- It has a high-quality condenser which is ideal for recording audio
- Boya B1 M1 has a low handling-noise, which means it cuts out some movement and handling noise
- The box includes a lapel clip, LR44 battery, foam windscreen, and a 1/4” adapter

Should you Buy Boya By M1?
I’ve tested Boya By M1 before writing this blog post, so whatever I’m sharing in this blog post is truly an honest review.
I wish you could understand my native language Urdu as I made a video on this mic in the Urdu language and literally confessed that I wasn’t expecting that kind of quality in this price tag.
My favorite feature of this collar is the low handling noise; what it means is that it doesn’t create distortion in the audio if you move while using this collar mic.
You won’t believe that I did a running test while making that review video, and it surprised me that it kept the footage distortion-free when I sprinted while using this collar mic.
Plus, I also liked that it has a long wire, which makes is easier if you’re using a wide-angle lens and sitting 15 to 20 feet away from the camera.
If I were you, I’d surely buy this collar microphone. To answer that question: yes, you should buy Boya B1 M1 collar mic if you’re a beginner YouTuber and need an affordable collar mic for YouTube.
I also use Boya By M1 for each of my videos. Actually, the quality is impressive in this price tag.

I tested this collar mic on my vlog channel; it took me by surprise.
I wasn’t expecting that kind of quality from an inexpensive collar mic.
